Apply for Financial Aid

Are you interested in applying for a FEDERAL PELL GRANT??

Student Loan Program:  South Louisiana Community College does not participate in the Federal Student Loan Program at this time.

First, watch the following series of videos from the Department of Education on completing the FAFSA

If you decide to apply for the Federal Pell Grant, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – located at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Be sure you select the correct Aid Year.  If you are starting after July 1, 2013 you will select the 13-14 FAFSA.

Summer 2013

If you plan on attending school for Summer 2013 you will need to complete the Summer 2013 Institutional Data Form

For Pell applicants – Once we receive your FAFSA and your Institutional Data Form, a “status” letter from SLCC’s Office of Financial Aid will be posted to your LoLA account on the Financial Aid tab in approximately six to eight weeks.

Processing Time- Once you have completed your FAFSA, please allow 7-10 days for your application to be sent to the school.  Then, please check your LoLA account, Financial Aid tab to determine if there are any additional Unsatisfied Requirements you may need to complete.  If there are, please complete these as soon as possible to insure sufficient time for processing your application.

Verification- Approximately 40% of all students applying for PELL funding are selected by the Department of Education for a process known as Verification.  If you are selected, you will need to provide additional documentation before the Financial Aid Office can process your application.  In addition to completing a Verification Worksheet, you may be required to provide a copy of your IRS Tax Transcript, and if you are a Dependent Student, a copy of your parent’s IRS Tax Transcript.  These transcripts may be obtained at the local IRS office.  Once you have a copy, please bring it to the Financial Aid window at the Lafayette- Ardoin building, or scan and upload a copy using the Online Forms Submittal process.
