Narrative:

South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) publishes its student rights and responsibilities in the Catalog (1) (pp. 58-73) and the Schedule Booklets (2) (pp. 48-68) under the title, “Rules and Regulations Governing Student Conduct.”  SLCC’s  “Student Conduct” includes twenty-five sections.  It begins with a list of Student Rights which is followed by a list of College Rights.  Section three is a list of Student Responsibilities followed by a list of College Responsibilities.  Due Process Rights and hearings are described in sections five through eight.  Section nine lists types of student conduct subject to disciplinary action.  Sections ten through twenty-four describe the disciplinary process for violations of section nine.  Section twenty-five describes harassment.

All students are required to participate in either on-site or on-line orientation sessions. In both the on-site and on-line orientation sessions, documentation is provided to the students notifying them of their Student Rights and Responsibilities.  In addition, it provides students directives on where to find the information in the Catalog and on the SLCC website (www.southlouisiana.edu).

SLCC maintains a consistent practice of receiving and acknowledging a student’s written complaint, performing follow up inquiry, and reporting to the student the outcome of the allegation.
