Narrative:

South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) adheres to admissions policies that are based on widely accepted standards.  Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors (LCTCS) admissions policies #1.004 (1) General Admissions Policy for First-Time Freshmen and #1.005 (2) General Admission Policy are based on American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) guidelines.

First-Time Freshmen requirements (Policy #1.004):

All the institutions comprising the Louisiana Community and Technical College System have an open admission policy as established by the Louisiana Legislature and approved by the Board of Regents. Anyone with a high school diploma from a state approved high school or a GED (General Education Diploma) is eligible for admission. Prospective certificate or degree seeking students without a high school diploma or its equivalent are also eligible for admission upon demonstration of the ability to benefit in accordance with the institution’s criteria.

All eligible persons are assured equal opportunity for admission without regard to ethnicity, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, or veteran’s status. Certain programs within the institutions may require additional admission standards in order to achieve program or industry accreditation standards.

General Admission Policy (Policy #1.005):

Each institution will publicize in the appropriate college publications the required documents necessary to complete a student’s admission process in accordance with his/her admission status, educational intent, and other established criteria. Students are notified of admission status upon receipt of the application by the Office of Admission. These documents are in addition to the completed application and payment of appropriate application fee.

SLCC is an open admissions post-secondary institution of higher education.   The College’s mission is supported by “an open-admissions policy which provides access to students from diverse racial, religious, economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. Within this open environment, the College proposes to offer educational opportunities that will improve the quality of life and meet the lifelong educational needs of the citizens it is designed to serve.” (3)

At a minimum, all students applying for admissions as degree-seeking students, international students, home-schooled students, transfer-in students, re-entry students, and non-degree seeking students must submit the following items:

•  SLCC Application
•  High School Transcript or GED Certificate
•  Official ACT Scores or Placement Survey Scores
•  Updated Immunization Records
•  Proof of Registration with Selective Service, if applicable (4)

In addition to the above, International students must have a certified English translation of their high school transcript, financial information disclosure for the full academic year, and original Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) report.

Transfer-in students are required to submit an official transcript from each institution attended if planning to seek a degree from SLCC.

In addition to the categories of students listed above, SLCC also accepts high school students through the policies established by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), the Louisiana Board of Regents for Higher Education (BoR), and through programs organized by the College for specific groups of students. High school students must submit an approved BoR or SLCC application, ACT PLAN scores, ACT scores, or placement scores.

The above policies are published in the Catalog. (5)

SLCC and the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) have partnered to establish a middle college called the Early College Academy (ECA), which is in its third year.
