3.4.2 Continuing Education/Service Programs
The institution’s continuing education, outreach, and service programs are consistent with the institution’s mission.

Narrative:
South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) provides courses on a non-credit basis to meet workforce training and leisure needs of the community. (1) These courses are consistent with the college's mission. During the Fall 2010 semester, SLCC enrolled 142 students in non-credit courses. Courses included British Petroleum (BP) Oil Spill Clean-Up and various leisure courses such as “Traiteur Traditions and Cultural Healing with both Cajun and Creole Peoples,” “Soul Survivor,” “BP Blues,” “History of Chinese Medicine,” and “Meditation.” An objective of SLCC’s mission includes: “A community education program, which incorporates the principles of service and continuing education for area citizens”. (2)
The College includes Service Learning components in courses such as speech and English. A Service Learning Committee (3) has become one of the standing committees.
The College has participated in a number of community outreach programs. (4) In fact, according to the 2009-2010 Annual Plan Report, there was a 57% increase in events held by external (non-SLCC) organizations/ agencies at SLCC in the six months ending June 30, 2010 in comparison to the six months ending June 30, 2009 (from 37 to 58).
