Narrative:

SLCC has adequate physical resources to support the scope of its programs and services as well as its mission.  The College operates 163,701 sq. ft. of facilities with a structure and inventory of 14.1 million dollars.   SLCC has a campus in New Iberia that is a leased space and sites in Franklin and Hessmer that are also leased. A capacity analysis of classroom and laboratory usage based on percent of stations in use to stations available shows SLCC is currently 28.32% of maximum capacity at all locations.  (1) A summary of capacity is given below.

In addition to adequate instructional facilities, all areas of student services, learning resources, business services, safety, maintenance and housekeeping, and bookstore at each campus locations. (2)

Student Open Forums were held in Lafayette and New Iberia campus on October 10, 2010 and October 7, 2010. (3) Questions were asked of the students about the facilities and the responses from the students were very positive.  In the Community College Survey of Student Engagement, the question was asked “How would you evaluate your entire educational experience at this college?”  Over 84% of the students responded “good” or “excellent”. (4)

The facilities master plan, titled Master Plan 2025, endeavors to provide a basic framework for the organization of a campus physical plant from which SLCC can meet its academic and outreach goals.  It includes a thorough analysis of the selected site and surrounding environs, projections of space needs based upon anticipated enrollment and educational specifications, as well as standards and parameters for the design of facilities and infrastructure necessary to meet these needs. (5)

A capital outlay request for the construction of a 55,000 square foot facility to house classrooms, labs, and office space to support the growing enrollment has been approved by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Board of Supervisors and the Louisiana Board of Regents (BoR) for a total budget of $12,750,000.  The design for the new building will start in FYE 2012. SLCC has a Property Manager and that individual is the custodian of and is responsible for all the property within SLCC. The property manager maintains:                                      

  • Annual printout of inventory used for certification
  • Letters  of certification of moveable property inventory
  • Sequentially dated copies of all property acquisitions/changes/dispositions transaction listings received

The Property Manager conducts a complete physical inventory of the property owned by SLCC each fiscal year and not more than 12 calendar months since the last physical inventory.  The Property Manager is responsible for recording the true and actual results of the physical inventory. (7) (8)
