A grant is gift aid that
does not have to be repaid in most cases. Only
undergraduate students pursuing their first
undergraduate degree are eligible to receive grants.
The Federal Pell Grant is offered at South Louisiana
Community College.
The Federal Pell Grant is
an entitlement program that is based on financial need.
The amount of your Pell Grant is determined by the
Federal Processor based on your Expected Family
Contribution (EFC) and the cost of enrollment at South
Louisiana Community College. The amount of any
Pell Grant award shown on your award notification is
contingent on full-time enrollment (at least 12 hours in
both the Fall and Spring and 6 hours in the Summer). If
you enroll in less that full-time your grant must be
adjusted accordingly. The following rule of thumb may be
applied to most Pell Grant awards. Pell Grants are
generally prorated as follows:
Fall and Spring:
9, 10, or 11 hours = 3/4
Time
6, 7, or 8 hours =
Half-Time
Summer:
5 hours = 3/4 Time
3 or 4 hours = Half-Time
