GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
International Students
All the institutions comprising the Louisiana Community
and Technical College System have an open admission policy as established by
the Louisiana Legislature and approved by the Board of Regents. Anyone with
a high school diploma from a state approved high school or a GED (General
Equivalency Diploma) is eligible for admission. Prospective certificate or
degree seeking students without a high school diploma or its equivalent are
also eligible for admission upon demonstration of the ability to benefit in
accordance with the institution's criteria.
All eligible persons are assured equal opportunity for admission without
regard to ethnicity, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability,
marital status, or veteran's status. Certain programs within the institution
may require additional admission standards in order to achieve program or
industry accreditation standards.
The following are necessary for admission to SLCC:
- A completed application
- One-time $5 nonrefundable application fee is
required for the first time SLCC student. Fees are paid at the Business
Office. Each new student will receive a current catalog upon payment of the
application fee. The one-time application fee is not refunded to a student,
even though a student may not qualify for admission to the College or
otherwise schedule classes. Fees are used to defray the costs of determining
admissibility and scheduling.
- Official transcripts from each institution attended after
final grades have been recorded, even if the credits appear on another
school's transcripts.
- ACT scores for all degree-seeking students and for
students receiving financial aid. Scores are required for academic placement
in English, math, and selected science courses. SAT scores can be converted
to ACT scores.
- Proof of immunization (2 measles, mumps, and rubella
shots/MMR) and a current tetanus-diphtheria shot taken within the last 10
years (TK), or submit a signed request for exemption.
- Proof of registration with the Selective Service. This is
a mandatory, non-negotiable requirement for all male students.
- Students may be admitted provisionally pending the
receipt of necessary records.
LOUISIANA RESIDENT STATUS
The residence status of an applicant or student is determined by the SLCC
Office of Admissions and Records. Status is determined by evidence provided
in the completed application for admission along with necessary supporting
documentation. An applicant or student who moves into Louisiana to attend
SLCC rather than to establish a residence and enrolls at SLCC as a
nonresident will continue to be so classified throughout attendance, unless
it is demonstrated that the previous domicile has been abandoned and a
Louisiana domicile established.
